The Way You’ve Been Building Mental Strength Might Be Hurting You
What if pushing harder isn’t actually strength?
Hola Fierce Friend,
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to be mentally strong.
Not the version we were taught.
Not the push through it, hold it together, don’t stop version.
But the real version.
The one that shows up after you’ve been carrying too much for too long.
You are used to being the one who holds everything together.
You lead.
You show up.
You handle what needs to get done.
And for a long time, that works.
Until it doesn’t.
At some point, that strength starts to feel heavy.
Not because you are not capable.
But because you have been carrying too much for too long.
I see this all the time.
Women who are strong, capable, responsible… and completely exhausted.
Still showing up.
Still performing.
Still doing what needs to get done.
But internally, something feels off.
And that’s when it hits.
Maybe mental strength isn’t about pushing harder.
Maybe it’s about how you support yourself while you are carrying everything.
We’ve been taught that strength looks like endurance.
Push through.
Do more.
Hold it together.
But what I’ve learned, both personally and in my work, is this:
Mental strength is not about forcing yourself through exhaustion.
It is about regulating what is happening inside of you.
It is about responding instead of reacting.
It is about supporting your internal experience instead of ignoring it.
Because at some point, pushing harder stops working.
Not because you are failing.
Because your system is overloaded.
There is often a part of you that is driven.
A part of you that is responsible for everyone else.
And a part of you that is completely exhausted… and being ignored.
Real strength comes from learning how to work with these parts.
Not override them.
I wrote more about this, what I noticed, and why it matters for how we show up in our daily lives.
If you’ve been feeling tired, stretched thin, or like you’re doing everything right but still not feeling okay, I think this will resonate with you.
